John Macaulay

John Macaulay was born in Manitoba in 1945.  He and his family live in Markham.  He graduated from Carleton University in Ottawa (1967) with a Bachelors degree in Psychology and the University of Ottawa with a degree in Common Law. He has practiced law in the City of Toronto since 1973.
John’s practice focuses extensively on Elder Law and its related fields (drafting wills, powers of attorney, and estate planning and administration – on behalf of estate trustees). John’s law practice also includes residential real estate purchases and sales.
In addition to being a member of the Scarborough Advisory Committee For Community Services and the Elder Connection (both are groups of professionals who meet regularly for informative lectures on Senior’s issues), he is the past present President (2006-2008) and member of the Scarborough Financial and Estate Planning council comprised of accountants, lawyers, financial planners and insurance industry representatives who meet monthly to discuss financial and estate planning concerns.
John has taught the legal component in Toronto at the intensive seminars given across Canada by the Canadian Seniors Advisor’s Group which awards a CSA certificate to the successful students such as financial planners, social workers and many others who work with seniors on a regular basis.
John is also a full member of STEP Canada (Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners). STEP Canada is the Canadian chapter of the international Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners. Members come from the insurance, trusts and finance, legal, and accounting professions and are involved at all levels in the planning, creation and management of trusts and estates, executorship, administration and related taxes. STEP is a significant global network of 69 branches in 33 countries. Since its inception in 1994, STEP has grown to more than 10,000 members worldwide. STEP provides education, training, representation and networking for its members, who are professionals specializing in trusts and estates, executorship, administration and related taxes. Full members of STEP are the most experienced and senior practitioners in the field of trusts and estates.
In addition to numerous regular public speaking engagements to seniors’ organizations John is a member of the Seniors Information Group (a non profit Ontario corporation – seniorsinformationgroup.com ) and the Estate Preparation Group (EPG) both of which are dedicated to conducting free information group sessions and the dissemination of important and valuable information to seniors, soon to be seniors and their caregivers.
John is also a regular attendee at educational seminars put on by the Law Society of Upper Canada, Ontario Bar Association and the Canadian Bar Association on Elder Law topics.
